mgr Małgorzata Fijał

Małgorzata Fijał is a participant of the Doctoral Programme in Cultural Studies at the Faculty of International and Political Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. In 2015-2017, she participated in the double-degree master's program implemented by the Institute of European Studies of the Jagiellonian University and Department of Political Science, Law and International Studies of the University of Padova, receiving a Master's degree in European Studies from the JU and a diploma dottore magistrale in Studi europei from the UNIPD. She also has qualifications in the language and culture of Italy obtained at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia. She is a six-time scholarship holder of Erasmus and Erasmus + programs (studies and internships). She has experience in working in diplomatic and consular representations gained at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland to the Holy See and at the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Rome.  In 2018, she participated in an international cultural exchange in the USA, where she worked in one of the camps.

Her main research focuses on the culture and politics of contemporary Italy, with particular emphasis on identity issues. Her interests also include the Mediterranean region and the contemporary populist movements. She is preparing a doctoral dissertation in the Division of Politics and Culture of Mediterranean Countries of the Institute of European Studies of the JU under the supervision of prof. Joanna Sondel-Cedarmas entitled "Padania. From the idea sources to an attempt to create a new nation in northern Italy” (“Padania. Od źródeł idei do próby stworzenia nowego narodu w północnych Włoszech”).

Research projects:

• 2020-2021: head of the "mini grant" for doctoral students entitled "Padania, or an attempt to create a new nation" financed by a subsidy from the Faculty of International and Political Studies of the Jagiellonian University for research

• 2019-2021:  member in international grant entitled "Shaping of the European citizenship in the post – totalitarian societies.
