We are pleased to invite you to a guest lecture to be delivered by Namatai Kwekweza, an African leader, social entrepreneur and human rights advocate.
The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 22 April at 13:15, in Room 022. The event is co-organised by the European Studies Student Research Group and the African and Middle Eastern Student Research Group.

Join us for a meeting with Prof. Saygun Gökarıksel, focusing on his book Moral Autopsy: Truths, Secrets, and the Judicial Afterlives of Communist Secret Service Archives (Cambridge University Press, 2025). The meeting will take place on 21 April (Tuesday), at 13.15, in Room 543. The event is co-organised by the Nomos Centre and the Institute of European Studies.

On 27 March, we had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Adam Fagan of King's College London to our Institute. He delivered a lecture entitled “Green Activism in the Era of Re-democratisation: Which Factors Determine the Transition from Coal to Alternative (Greener) Energy Sources in Poland?” as part of the PROSPER Jean Monnet Network.

On 25 March, the first meeting in the series “European Studies and German Studies Alumni Salon” took place. This new initiative, jointly organised by the Jagiellonian University European Studies Society and the German-speaking Area Society, aims to introduce students of the Institute of European Studies to the profiles of its graduates, their career paths, and their reflections on their time at the University.

On 24 March, Dr Marta Pietras-Eichberger, as part of the collaboration between the Institute of European Studies and the Hereditas Independent Sixth Form College in Kraków, delivered a session on the essence of mediation in conflict management for pupils in a humanities and administration-oriented class.

On 18 March, the student research societies operating within the Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University had the pleasure of hosting representatives of the Centre for Roma History and Culture during an event entitled “A Difficult Past and Contemporary Challenges of the Roma Minority in Europe.” Our guests were Mr Władysław Kwiatkowski, Ms Natalia Janusik and Mr Marek Isztok.

We are pleased to announce that the Institute of European Studies has gained a new stakeholder – the Foundation for the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oświęcim. This partnership opens up new opportunities for the Institute, including the development of joint educational and research projects, the organisation of workshops, seminars and international meetings, the strengthening of initiatives promoting intercultural dialogue and historical remembrance, as well as greater student engagement in international activities.

We warmly encourage you to apply for the European Commission’s paid, five‑month traineeship programme. The traineeship will begin on 1 October 2026 and run until the end of February 2027. To be eligible, applicants must have completed a higher education degree (equivalent to at least a Bachelor’s level).

🇪🇺 On 17 March, as part of the TED4UJ_ISE series organised in cooperation with the Representation of the European Commission in Poland, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr hab. Małgorzata Molęda‑Zdziech, Professor at SGH and an expert with Team Europe Direct Poland, to the Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University.

On 10–11 March, the Jewish Historical Institute hosted the conference “History (According to) Adam Michnik”, co‑organised by the Institute of Political Science and International Relations at the Jagiellonian University. Our Faculty was represented by Dr Agnieszka Gawlas‑Zajączkowska and Dr Bartosz Kwieciński.
