Institute of European Studies at Jagiellonian University offers a doctoral position within MSCA Doctoral Network EUFOG. Contested EU Foreign Policy in an Era of Geopolitics.

Funded under the European Union’s Horizon Europe – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Doctoral Networks (MSCA-DN), EUFOG contributes to a better understanding of the ways in which the EU is reconsidering key tenets of its international role in the face of the geopolitical turn in international politics. EUFOG systematically addresses the politics, policies and partners associated with the ways in which EU foreign policy responds to these new international realities. Under the guidance of some of the leading scholars in this area, a new generation of doctoral students will be trained in the study of the international dimensions and effects of populism.

EUFOG offers an integrated three-year doctoral programme, providing world-class, interdisciplinary research and specialised training in social and political sciences, political economy, and communication, including research visits and secondments at associated partners, to bridge the gap between academic research and everyday policy practice. an interdisciplinary, multi-sectoral network bringing together 17 industry-academia partners, including ten leading higher education institutions and seven key partners from a range of European and non-European countries. 

The position offered at Jagiellonian University covers following topic:

“From normative to pragmatic and back? The EU’s engagement with close neighbours in a geopolitical order”. 

The Project shall focus on how the EU’s engagement with close neighbours clashes now with claims by other powers over their alleged spheres of influence. This project shall examine the changing relationship of the EU with its close neighbours in a geopolitical order, and identifies the evolution over time and variation across neighbours of such relationship. It shall account for changes in terms of different alternative explanations and motives from the EU side and reactions by third countries to such changes.

Doctoral candidate employed at Jagiellonian University will be enrolled into the Doctoral School and will have to undertake secondments in partner institutions (see details in Guide for Applicants).  Please note that Doctoral candidates’ recruitment is subject to the mobility rule. Applicants may be nationals of Member States, Associated Countries, or any other third country. Additionally, the applicant must not have lived or worked in Poland for more than 12 months in the 36 months before their date of recruitment, excluding short stays such as holidays.

Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellows are offered a full-time, three-year contract. An attractive salary in accordance with the MSCA regulations for doctoral candidate is offered (including living allowance, mobility Allowance and family allowance, if applicable. Please note that all compulsory national contributions (social security, pension, insurance, taxes etc.) to be borne by the employer and employee shall be deducted from the abovementioned amount in line with MSCA rules.
