On Tuesday, 19 May 2026, we had the great pleasure of hosting Prof. José Briceño-Ruiz from the Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CIALC) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) as a visiting professor the Erasmus Mundus MA in Euroculture programme.

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new collaboration between the Institute of European Studies and the Czech company BESKYDHOST, based in Ostravice in the Czech Republic. BESKYDHOST specialises in regional promotion as well as innovative solutions that support communication and cross-border cooperation in the Beskid region.

On 19 May, we had the pleasure of hosting Ambassador Jan Truszczyński at our Institute – a distinguished diplomat, former Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the European Union, and one of the architects of Poland’s integration with the European Union. Serving as the Government Plenipotentiary for Accession Negotiations, he led, on behalf of the Polish government, the negotiations on Poland’s EU membership.

During the Europe Day celebrations, we were delighted to present a new podcast series created by first-year undergraduate students on the European Studies programme as part of their Academic English course. The episodes explore a range of topics, including symbols, art, traditions and visions of Europe. If you enjoy what you hear, please consider leaving a like and sharing the series with others.

One of the highlights of the Europe Day celebrations at our Institute was the announcement of the results of the student photography competition entitled “I’ve Got My Eye on Europe”. We would like to thank all participants for submitting their work. The winning photographs, together with the full justification of the Jury’s decision, can be found below. Congratulations to the winners—and we already encourage you to take part in next year’s edition of the competition.

On Friday, 8 May, we celebrated Europe Day, which this year formed part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Faculty of International and Political Studies, Jagiellonian University. The full‑day event was designed and delivered by students from the European Studies Student Research Society and the German‑Speaking Area Student Research Society. We rounded off this vibrant and energetic day with a faculty picnic, complete with a barbecue and a game of boules.

As part of the Europe Day celebrations at the Institute of European Studies, Jagiellonian University, we were delighted to welcome Prof. Iveta Radičová, former Prime Minister of Slovakia, to our Faculty on 7 May. Prof. Radičová delivered a guest lecture for students entitled “From Liberal Democracy to European Illiberalism”.
