The final conference of the Horizon Europe project REGROUP (Rebuilding Governance and Resilience Out of the Pandemic) was held on 24–25 June 2025 at the European University Institute in Florence.

That was an intense weekend! The Institute of European Studies celebrated the 25-year anniversary of our English-language degree programmes! We had panel discussions, we had banquets (with lots of blue cake), we had slide shows of years gone by, we had vodka tasting, we had a salt mine tour, and we had a vineyard tour. But most of all, we got to see old friends and colleagues and talk about where we have been and where we are going.

On Thursday, 15 May, students of the Institute of European Studies of the Jagiellonian University attended a guest lecture by Spyridon St. Kogkas entitled 'In the Value of Civic Education: Lessons from European History'.

We welcome you to the 2nd season of the European Studies at the Jagiellonian University podcast series. This series brings together the work of first year BA students studying in the Polish-language programme of the Institute of European Studies. This season offers an interesting array of themes, from religious practices and food culture, to tall and mysterious tales, as well as thought-provoking discussions about multilingualism, consumer culture and the influence of tech companies on our privacy.

On Saturday, 8 June a group of international students from the Institute of European Studies and the Inter-faculty Individual Studies in the Humanities programme of the Jagiellonian University took a field trip to visit the Jagiellonian University vineyard in Łazy and the Okocim brewery.

On Friday, 23 February, we had an intensive day of Orientation for students from many programmes just arriving at our Institute!
We covered everything from the mysteries of USOSweb and student IDs through what kinds of ‘Culture Surprises’ we can expect and how to cope with them.

BAES student Gergely Hunor Németh describes visiting Strasbourg as a delegate at the 11th World Forum for Democracy at the Council of Europe.

Prof. Victor Menco Haeckermann writes about his experiences in Poland and at the Jagiellonian University as a visiting scholar. Thanks to a grant from Florida Atlantic University’s Center for Peace, Justice, and Human Rights, in spring 2023, Prof. Haeckermann was able to travel here to learn about the revival of Jewish life in Poland after 1945.
