On 21 April, as part of the #TED4UJ_ISE series, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Jerzy Plewa, an expert from Team EUROPE DIRECT, who met with our students to discuss the evolution of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy in the context of contemporary geopolitical, environmental and climate challenges.

On 16–17 April 2026, the international conference Joint MA in International Relations: Europe from the Visegrad Perspective entitled “Is Visegrad Europe Really Doomed?” took place in Pilsen. The programme is coordinated by Dr Grzegorz Pożarlik from Jagiellonian University. Hosted by the University of West Bohemia, the event brought together experts, academics and students from the Visegrad Group countries and across Europe.

The conference “Re-interpreting Heritage in the Light of Faro”, held in Faro (Portugal) from 16 to 19 April 2026, brought together experts from across Europe to discuss contemporary approaches to the interpretation of cultural heritage inspired by the principles of the Faro Convention.

Friday, 8 May 2026 has been designated as a day free from teaching activities for students across all programmes at the Institute of European Studies (under the Director’s discretionary hours). This decision is linked to the celebration of 🇪🇺 Europe Day - a long‑standing tradition of our Institute - which this year also forms part of the 25th anniversary of the Faculty. Students are warmly encouraged to take part in the events.

Join us for a meeting with Oleg Serebrian, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Ankara and former Deputy Prime Minister. The event will take place on 15 May at 12:00 in the Small Collegium Paderevianum, al. Adama Mickiewicza 11, ground floor, room 0.3. The meeting will be chaired by Dr hab. Kazimierz Jurczak, Prof. UJ.

Professor Radka Svarickova from the Faculty of History at the University of Olomouc will give a guest lecture on 12 May 2026 at 13:15, entitled ‘Beyond sight: Multisensory experiences in Poland’s Second World War museums’.
The lecture will take place in room 543.

Join us for a guest lecture From Liberal Democracy to European Illiberalism, to be delivered by Professor Iveta Radičová, former Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic. The lecture will take place on Thursday, 7 May at 14:45, in Room 038. Following the lecture, there will be a discussion with Prof. Przemysław Tacik, followed by a Q&A session.

The Institute of European Studies of the Jagiellonian University proudly announces The Europe Day 2026 Photography Competition “I’ve Got My Eye on Europe”. Students of all levels and in all programmes at the Institute of European Studies of Jagiellonian University are eligible to participate in the competition.

Last week we had the great pleasure of hosting visiting scholar Prof. Oded Haklai, Director of the Centre for the Study of Democracy and Diversity at Queen's University in Canada, who gave several very interesting lectures within the framework of the Erasmus Mundus MA in Euroculture programme at the Institute of European Studies.
