Jean Monnet PROSPER Network Academic Conference | 1-2.10.2026

On 1-2 October 2026, the Faculty of the International and Political Studies of the Jagiellonian University will host the Jean Monnet PROSPER Network Academic Conference, entitled 'Europe under Pressure: Security, Governance and Geopolitics in a Time of Global Turmoil'. The conference will bring together scholars and practitioners to analyse the interaction between security, governance and geopolitics across the European Union and its neighbourhood.

PROSPER Conference Keynote Lecture | Dr Kinga Redłowska | 1.10.2026

Join us for the keynote lecture by Dr Kinga Redłowska of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), 'The New Financial Order: Alternative Systems, Geopolitical Rivalry and Europe’s Security', opening the Jean Monnet PROSPER Research Network Conference. The lecture will take place on 1 October (Thursday) at 15:30 in Room 037, Faculty of International and Political Studies, Jagiellonian University.

Run for a Good Cause | 30.09.2026

Join us in our WSMiP pre-run event, which will take place on 30 September at 11:30am as part of the charity initiative Run for a Good Cause. We are running in support of Jaś Pogoda, the nine-year-old son of a member of staff at the Jagiellonian University. Funds raised will help cover the costs of his treatment, rehabilitation and specialist therapies.

Academic Conference: “The Iron Curtain and the Politics of Memory”

On 25 June 2026, the Faculty of International and Political Studies at the Jagiellonian University will host the international academic conference entitled “The Iron Curtain and the Politics of Memory”. The event will focus on the memory of the Iron Curtain, memory politics, national identity, and contemporary political narratives in Central and Eastern Europe.

Commemoration of the European Roma and Sinti Holocaust Memorial Day

On 2 August 2026, the Director of the Institute of European Studies, Prof. Kinga Anna Gajda, took part in the commemorations marking the 82nd anniversary of the liquidation of the so-called “Zigeunerlager” at Auschwitz II-Birkenau and the European Roma and Sinti Holocaust Memorial Day.

During a research placement at the Institute for Public Affairs in Bratislava (IVO – Inštitút pre verejné otázky), the Director of the Institute of European Studies, Kinga Gajda, PhD, Prof. UJ, and the Head of the Department of Central European Studies, Krzysztof Koźbiał, PhD, Prof. UJ, met with the Director of IVO, Dr Grigorij Mesežnikov, one of the Institute’s founders. The Institute was established in 1997.

Cooperation Agreement Signed with the Museum of Photography in Bydgoszcz

A cooperation agreement has been signed with the Museum of Photography in Bydgoszcz. Established in 2004 and operating within the University of Economy in Bydgoszcz, the Museum is the only institution of its kind in northern Poland. Its extensive collection comprises more than 4,000 exhibits documenting the history and development of photography. The Museum also undertakes exhibition, educational and research activities, organising workshops, museum lessons and the Bydgoszcz Academy of Photography.

Svetlana Baranova selected for the Europaeum Scholars' Programme

We are delighted to announce that our Institute's staff member Svetlana Baranova has been selected for the prestigious Europaeum Scholars' Programme (Cohort 5)! The Europaeum Scholars Programme brings together outstanding doctoral students from seventeen leading European universities, giving them direct engagement with institutions shaping Europe's future.

Dr hab. Bożena Gierat-Bieroń, Prof. UJ, awarded for her contributions to culture, education and cultural diplomacy

Dr hab. Bożena Gierat-Bieroń, Prof. UJ, has received two distinctions in recognition of her outstanding contributions to culture, education and cultural diplomacy. The awards were presented during the academic conference “Cultural Diplomacy: The Importance of Good Relations and Cooperation in Times of Polarisation and Conflict”, held at the Faculty of International and Political Studies of the Jagiellonian University (WSMiP UJ) on 26–27 June 2026.
