Open lecture: Why do we (still) need critical security studies? | 8.10.2026

We invite you to a public lecture entitled “Why do we (still) need critical security studies?”, organised as part of the FDL Visiting Professor Scheme. The lecture will be delivered by Dr Marco Krüger from the International Centre for Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities at the University of Tübingen, Germany. The lecture will take place on 8 October, from 12:15 to 13:45, in Room 543 of the WSMiP building on Reymonta Street.

Join us for the Academic Year Opening Lecture at the Institute of European Studies, Jagiellonian University, entitled "External and Internal Challenges to the EU's Global Role in Times of Geopolitical Turmoil". The lecture will be delivered by Professor Karolina Pomorska (Leiden University) and will take place at our Faculty on Tuesday, 6 October, at 13:15 in room 015.

Holocaust Memory in the Age of AI: Bias, Denial and Extremism | 5.10.2026

As AI systems are adopted across society, they increasingly serve as a source of knowledge and memory — including about the Holocaust. Because they are trained on vast amounts of user-generated content and other unvetted sources, they can reproduce biases and misinformation.

Join us for the keynote lecture by Dr Kinga Redłowska of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), 'The New Financial Order: Alternative Systems, Geopolitical Rivalry and Europe’s Security', opening the Jean Monnet PROSPER Research Network Conference. On 1-2 October 2026, the Faculty of the International and Political Studies of the Jagiellonian University will host the Jean Monnet PROSPER Network Academic Conference, entitled 'Europe under Pressure: Security, Governance and Geopolitics in a Time of Global Turmoil'. Run for a Good Cause | 30.09.2026

Join us in our WSMiP pre-run event, which will take place on 30 September at 11:30am as part of the charity initiative Run for a Good Cause. We are running in support of Jaś Pogoda, the nine-year-old son of a member of staff at the Jagiellonian University. Funds raised will help cover the costs of his treatment, rehabilitation and specialist therapies.

Academic Conference: “The Iron Curtain and the Politics of Memory”

On 25 June 2026, the Faculty of International and Political Studies at the Jagiellonian University will host the international academic conference entitled “The Iron Curtain and the Politics of Memory”. The event will focus on the memory of the Iron Curtain, memory politics, national identity, and contemporary political narratives in Central and Eastern Europe.

5th National Congress of European Studies 2026 | Poznań

Academics from the Institute of European Studies at Jagiellonian University took an active part in the 5th National Congress of European Studies, Europe at a Time of Transformation, held in Poznań.
