We are delighted to announce that Prof. Przemysław Tacik from our Institute has been recognised for the high quality of his teaching in the 2024/2025 academic year. The award was presented during a ceremony held on 16 June 2026 in the Auditorium of the Collegium Novum at the Jagiellonian University. Our warmest congratulations to Prof. Tacik on this well-deserved distinction.

A cooperation agreement has been signed between the Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University and the Association of Poles in Italy (Associazione dei Polacchi in Italia). The Association is the oldest and largest umbrella organisation representing the Polish community on the Italian Peninsula. Founded in 1995, it brings together 19 Polish diaspora organisations from across Italy, including numerous associations based in Rome.

We are pleased to draw your attention to a new publication by Prof. Tadeusz Kopyś (Jagiellonian University): the chapter Early Medieval Hungary: The Main Features of Hungarian National Identity: From Medieval Hungarus to Modern National Identity, included in Memory, State, and Past Remembering in East Central and Northern Europe, Interdisciplinary Studies in Medieval Culture, Volume I, edited by Piotr Pranke, Łukasz Różycki and Marcin Lisiecki (Routledge, 2026).

On 25 June 2026, the Faculty of International and Political Studies at the Jagiellonian University will host the international academic conference entitled “The Iron Curtain and the Politics of Memory”. The event will focus on the memory of the Iron Curtain, memory politics, national identity, and contemporary political narratives in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Institute of European Studies at the Faculty of International and Political Studies of the Jagiellonian University is pleased to invite you to participate in the international academic conference entitled “The Topos of ‘Victim’ in the Politics of Historical Memory, National Memory (including Memory Politics) of Central and Eastern European and Balkan Countries”, which will take place on 24 June 2026 in Kraków.

We are pleased to announce the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University and the Centre for Cultural Diplomacy—an organisation whose mission is to promote cultural diplomacy as a tool for dialogue, social integration, and the development of civil society.

Join us for a lecture by Prof. Nicholas J. Cull from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, University of Southern California, entitled “Reputational Security: Renewing the Argument for Cultural Diplomacy”. The event will take place on Friday, 26 June, at 10:30, in room 038 at the Faculty of International and Political Studies, Jagiellonian University (WSMiP UJ), and will be held online.

Representatives of the Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University took part in the VI International Congress of Human Rights, held in Rzeszów from 11 to 13 June 2026. The congress addressed key issues related to human rights in the contemporary world and brought together participants from 22 countries across five continents.

Since 2022, the Foundation has been actively involved in efforts to preserve and revitalise one of the region’s most valuable historical monuments – the Jan Długosz House, also known as the Academy. This unique site is closely associated with the eminent Polish chronicler, who received his early education there.
